As a retrocomputerateur, I still have a bunch of IDE disks in "service". I thought it would be fun to see which is the last drive standing. This is extremely unscientific. "Working" means generally OK in use, makes a minimum of horrible noises, doesn't corrupt data, passes ScanDisk/badblocks or equivalent. 2025 is very late to start collecting statistics on this kind of thing. Nevertheless, data collection began in January 2025. I have chosen to initially include some of the various dead drives I still have around, even though I don't know when they died. :: STILL GOING MODEL SIZE MFG'D LAST ALIVE YEARS COMMENTS ===== ==== ===== ========== ===== ================ Seagate ST34342A 4.3G 1998 2025-01-27 27 passed badblocks Maxtor 51024U2 10.2G 1999 2025-01-27 26 passed badblocks Quantum Fireball Plus LM 10.0G 2000? 2025-01-27 25 passed badblocks :: DYING ... :: RIP MODEL SIZE MFG'D LAST ALIVE YEARS COMMENTS ===== ==== ===== ========== ===== ================ Fujitsu MPG3409AT-TC 40G 2001 ??? ??? dead 2025-01-26 -=============================================================================-
