:: IDE HARD DRIVE DEATH WATCH
Sooner or later -- probably sooner, depending on one's definition of sooner
-- we will be living in a world where there is not a single IDE(/ATA/PATA)
hard drive still functioning. As a retrocomputerateur, I still have a bunch
of IDE disks in "service". I thought it would be fun to see which is the
last drive standing. This is extremely unscientific. "Working" means
generally OK in use, makes a minimum of horrible noises, doesn't corrupt
data, passes ScanDisk/badblocks or equivalent.
2025 is very late to start collecting statistics on this kind of thing.
Nevertheless, data collection began in January 2025. I have chosen to
initially include some of the various dead drives I still have around, even
though I don't know when they died.
